CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate.

Here at CASA for Children Texarkana, we recruit, train, and empower volunteers to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in greater Texarkana. When a child is placed in foster care, a judge appoints a volunteer advocate to make independent and informed recommendations to help the court make a ruling about the child’s best interest. Volunteer advocates create connections and promote nurturing relationships for the child and family, encouraging hope and healing.

"CASA provides an invaluable service not only to the 102nd District Court but to all courts they serve. I say this confidently based on the number of years I have been working with and relying on CASA volunteers. The information and perspective they bring to the courtroom regarding the cases they are assigned cannot be replaced. Their relationship with the other participants (CPS, lawyers, parents, children, and others) gives them a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory of a case. When I turn to the CASA volunteer and ask their position, I know I'm receiving information not only in the best interest of the child or children to whom they may be assigned, but information which will help bring a case to an appropriate resolution."

- Judge Jeff Addison, 102nd District Court Judge
